Angelus

V. The angel spoke God's message to Mary
R. and she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary. etc ?
V. Mary said I am the handmaid of the Lord
R. let it be done to me according to your word. Hail Mary, etc ?
V. And the word became flesh
R. and lived among us. Hail Mary etc ?
Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech you,
O Lord, your grace into our hearts;
that, as we have known the incarnation of Christ,
your son, by the message of an angel,
so by his passion and cross we may be brought
to the glory of his resurrection.
Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

The 'Angelus' (angel) is an old prayer. In many places we are reminded of it when the bells ring in the morning, at noon and in the evening. The prayer recalls not only the 'hail Mary' of the angel but also the birth, the suffering and the resurrection of Christ. The main verses are taken from the Scriptures in between an 'Ave Maria' is said.
